What is Wicca?

Historically Wicca is supposed to be the direct successor to the Neolithic religion. Virtually all of the Wiccan traditions can be traced back to Gerald Gardener. There is considerable debate as to whether Gerald passed on the Craft from earlier sources or invented it out of whole cloth. He did borrow from many sources including Alester Crowley. Occult history regularly has had contemporary Occultists who develop their system back date it 200+ years and put a famous name on to it. It is still amazing how many  Guru Swampi Maharajish or Sara turtlefeathers were borne George and Suzy  Goldfarb from the Bronx

Trad Wicca can be broken into three sections Wiccan Magic, The Religion of Wicca and the Coven Family they are interdependent.  The magic uses the Religions world view the Religion uses the magic to bridge the gap between the mundane and the mythic vision. The Coven family is a training and support system for both the religion and the Magic and all of them cause profound changes in an individual.

Wiccan Magic

All religions have magical systems derived from their world views. To practice Wiccan Magic requires and teaches a greater self awareness "Man Know thyself". The ability to work Wiccan Magic transforms a person from a state of helplessness i.e. victim to one of strength and responsibility.

The Religion of Wicca

Wicca is an Inclusive religion in that as long as someone believes in the God and Goddess and a few core ideas they can believe in almost anything else and still be Wiccan. Exclusive religions say that you must believe in 1 2 3 not 1 & 3 or 1 2 3 and B .

The Balance and Cooperation of the God and Goddess is one of Wicca's core ideas

The Coven Family is a support group for religious, emotional and social needs. It is a learning situation for novice and for elder. The Coven Family has the ability to preserve knowledge and wisdom as well as challenge its members with Rituals that provoke change and growth.
