My interest in Wendell Willkie is in some sense due to the fact that he was my great uncle. I am not, however, a blood relative -- my mother’s sister married Wendell Willkie’s only child, a son named Philip. I only mention this to ensure that visitors to this site are aware of any biases I may have toward my subject, although I believe they are minimal.

   I have, in fact, a long-standing dislike for the average Republican, especially the Republicans of today. But, as you will discover when you navigate this site, Wendell Willkie was not an average Republican -- not by today’s standards and not by the standards of his GOP colleagues in the 1930s and 1940s.
