Derek's Unificated Charts
This site will feature charts that combine all the important
charts of today.
It will included the following chart systems:
1. Billboard
2. Gavin Records
3. Soundscan
Mission
These three charts represent music today. Soundscan in sales,
Gavin in Radio Airplay, and Billboard tries to combine airplay,
sales, and many other factors. While it seems that Billboard is
the king of charts, you are mistaken. Like every chart system,
they divide their charts up into the different genres of music.
I am a firm believer that music is worse of because we put music
into genres. We need one chart. One chart that combines all
aspects that would make a single or a record good, and one chart
that combines all forms of music. It is only in this way could we
possibly begin to understand the meaning of a #1 single, or a #1
record. With hundreds of charts, along with hundreds of awards
shows, it seem like everyone wins. For example, a few weeks back
I saw a chart (possibly Gavin?) which had "Genie In A Bottle" at
#1, for two weeks. Then I saw Billboard, and they had it at #7,
while Soundscan had it at #2. Well, which is it! This chart will
tell you
Formula
I clicked on the Billboard icon that explained their new chart
system and it was mind-boggling. A bit too complicated, for anyone.
This site, it's simple. Gavin and Soundscan already have a point
system which I will honor, and it will represent 25% of the chart
make up. Billboard which doesn't post a point system, will be
more difficult to combine the different charts on their site, but
I will find a fair and just way, and Billboard will represent 25%
of the charts makeup. The other 25% will come in the same way, from
a variety of different smaller charts, still important to music.
The way I will combine a certain chart is easy also. Gavin for example
is strictly on radio spins. So, if the #1 Pop song has 1500 spins,
and the #6 Pop song has 1000 spins, while the "#1" Country song has
1001 spins, where would the Country song fall? For ease, #5. Same
with every other chart I will be using.
Conclusion
If I left out an important chart, please let me know. I will make
this easier to read in the next few days. I will also explain it better.
