J. A. PANCAKE, OF VIRGINIA SIDE, DIES
Death Of Well-Known Citizen And Former Member Of Town Council Occurred Friday; Funeral Sunday
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Memorial Baptist church, Bluefield, Va., for Joseph A. Pancake, 50, prominent Bluefield, Va., citizen whose death occurred Friday at his home in Shelby Heights addition. Interment will be in Maple Hill cemetery. At the request of Mr. Pancake, friends are asked to omit flowers.
Mr. Pancake, a native of Milton, West Virginia, was born September 6, 1883, and was therefore, in his fifty-first year. During his early adult life, he was a school teacher. In 1909, Mr. Pancake moved to Gary, W. Va., where he was employed by the United Supply company for a period of fifteen years as store manager. He located in Bluefield, Va., in 1925 since which time he had lived here. Mr. Pancake served one term as a member of the Bluefield city council and was vice-mayor during that time. He had been engaged in the insurance business until the time of his illness.
Mr. Pancake was stricken on a Sunday morning more than a year ago while at the Baptist Sunday school. Later, he underwent a surgical operation in Richmond and had partially recovered. During the present week Mr. Pancake was down town. On Thursday he suffered a paralytic stroke which resulted in his death on the following day.
On October 11, 1911, he was married to Miss Ora A. Lambert of Ironton, Ohio, and to the union, four children were born, three sons and one daughter: J. Howard, Richard L., Claude A. and Ruth M. Pancake, who with his widow, survive. He is also survived by three sisters and one brother, one half-sister and three half-brothers. The sisters are: Mrs. R. W. Griffith, Panther, W. Va.; Misses May and Ethel Pancake, of Cincinnati. His full brother lives in Boulder, Colorado.
Mr. Pancake was an active member of Memorial Baptist church, Bluefield, Va., and a teacher of the Sunday school. He was widely known throughout the section and enjoyed a large circle of friends.
The active pallbearers will be: A. A. Wallace, A. G. Taylor, B. E. McQueen, J. B. Perdue, L. K. Knoel, J. G. Denny, Lacy Boswell, W. K. Graves.
The funeral will be conducted by Reverend H. A. Willis, pastor of Memorial Baptist church.

ORA A. PANCAKE
Ora Anis Pancake, 88, of 2034 Lee Ave., Bluefield, Va., died Saturday at Haga Rest Home in Nemours following a long illness.
Born in Jackson, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Will and Mary B. Lambert. Her husband, Joseph A. Pancake, preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Haward Pancake of Bluefield, Va., Claude A. Pancake of Pineville and Richard L. Pancake of Old Tappan, N.J.; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Wilkinson of Wilmington, Del.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dudley Memorial Chapel at Bluefield, Va., with Rev. Garnet Quesenberry and Rev. C. E. Smoot officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Bluefield, Va.
Pallbearers will be Bill Wallace, Joe Mahood, Clyde Grubb, Reiner Wallace, J. B. Brown, Bundy Beard, R. C. Chapman and Harry Necessary.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Beavers, Jim Leonard, Otis Neel, Murray Pope, Frank Keffner, Bill Thompson, Roy Deaton, Dan Slade, Dr. P. P. Ferraracio, Dr. Upshur Higginbotham, Whalen Newton, Crockett Hughes, Bus McNeer, Raymond Neel, Roscoe Hinkle and Jim Caldwell.
Friends may call at the funeral home today after 4 p.m.
