PIKE COUNTY MAN FREEZES TO DEATH

WAVERLY, O., Dec. 30.--Pike County's first fatality from cold weather in several years was recorded Tuesday evening about 5 o'clock, when Zacharia Pancake, 77, was found dead in his home at Omega, north of here on the N. & W.
Neighbors and friends noticed that Mr. Pancake had not been about for about three days and when Thomas Overly, a neighbor, investigated last evening, he found Mr. Pancake dead.
Mr. Overly went to the home and called several times and when he failed to receive a response tried the door and found it open. Going inside he found Mr. Pancake on the floor of his living room and in front of a stove.
Coroner Dan J. Wilson was called and rendered a verdict of death due to freezing. It is thought that Mr. Pancake got up during the night to build a fire and was overcome with exposure while working in front of his stove. Plenty of fuel was kept in the house.
The body was removed to a local morgue and prepared for burial. Funeral and burial plans are indefinite pending the arrival of a nephew, Carl Pancake, of New York City. Mr. Pancake also leaves a niece, Mrs. William Woodn, of this place.
