LOCAL PHYSICIAN CLAIMED BY DEATH

Dr. Arthur Pancake Succumbs At Home in W. Liberty St.

     Dr. Arthur Pancake, 59, one of the city's highly respected citizens and well-known physicians, died of uremic poisoning at 9 a.m. Sunday at his home, 149 W. Liberty st. He had been ill less than one week. Last Wednesday after visiting some of his patients, Dr. Pancake suffered a heart attack and has been bedfast since that time.
     Dr. Pancake was essentially a home-loving man. He leaves a wide circle of friends to mourn their loss. He did much charitable work in the city and was of a kind and genial character.
     He was born in Frankfort, O., where he spent his childhood. He attended and graduated from the Frankfort schools and then went to the University of Cincinnati Medical school. After completing his course there, he went to South Solon, where he practiced medicine for six years.
     For the last 21 years he has been practicing medicine in this city. He was a member of the Clark County Medical association. Dr. Pancake served as Springfield township physician for several years.
     He was a member of the First Congregational church of this city and took a deep interest in the affairs of that church.
     Dr. Pancake is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alta J. Pancake; a daughter, Mrs. Madeline Evans; a son, Ward Pancake, all of Springfield; two brothers, Isaac and Henry, and one sister, Sada, all living in Frankfort, besides two grandchildren of this city.
     Funeral services will be held at the residence at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in charge of Rev. Harry Trust, pastor of the First Congregational church. The body will be taken to Frankfort Wednesday morning for further services in the Methodist church there. Burial will be made in the Frankfort cemetery.

DR. ARTHUR PANCAKE.

     Funeral services for Dr. Arthur Pancake, 59, who died of uraemic poisoning Sunday morning at his home, 149 W. Liberty st., were held at the residence at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night. The body was taken Wednesday morning to Dr. Pancake's former home at Frankfort for further funeral services and burial. Pallbearers were chosen from former friends in that city. Floral tributes in profusion have been received at the Pancake residence, showing the high regard with which his many friends held Dr. Pancake, who did much philanthropic work.

Mrs. Pancake Dies In Home Of Daughter

     Mrs. Alta Jane Pancake, 78, widow of the late Dr. Arthur Pancake who practiced medicine in Springfield for many years, died at 3:30 a. m. Friday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cliff N. Groves of 543 N. Limestone st.
     Mrs. Pancake had been in ill health since September. Her husband died in 1924.
     Mrs. Pancake is believed to have been the eldest member of the First Congregational Christian Church.
     Born in Frankfort, O., July 23, 1868, she was the daughter of Allan and Mary Putnam Wilkins, pioneer residents of Frankfort.
     She is survived by the one daughter, Mrs. Groves; one son, Ward K. Pancake of Chicago; one brother, Corry Wilkins of Frankfort and three grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be at 2:30 p. m. Saturday in the Woods funeral home with the Rev. Frank Wright officiating. At 10 a. m. Sunday the body will be taken to the Fisher funeral home at Frankfort where funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday. Burial will be at 2 p. m. Sunday. Burial will Frankfort.

MRS. PINA EDMISTON

     SOUTH CHARLESTON - Mrs. Pina Edmiston, 67, wife of Claude Edmiston, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at her South Charleston home. She had been ill several months and suffered a heart attack at the end.
     A native of Lawrence County, O., she had spent approximately 15 years in this village. She was a member of the Baptist Church in her home county.
     Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Titus, South Charleston; five sons, Russell and Ray of South Charleston; Wayne and Carl, Springfield, and Elzie, Sheridan, Wyo.; a sister, Mrs. Emma Webb, South Point, O., and three brothers, Charles Pancake, Mountain Home, N. C.; Fred Pancake, Bloomington, Ill., and Able [sic, his name was Abraham] Pancake, Williamsport, O.
     The body was brought to the Sprague funeral home here, where it will remain for services at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in the local Greenlawn Cemetery.

WARD K. PANCAKE

       Ward K. Pancake, 64, of Chicago, Ill., native Springfielder, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday in Dalton, Ga., following several months of failing health.
       Born Feb. 3, 1890, he was a son of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Pancake of this community.
       Mr. Pancake left Springfield about 1930. He was an inspector for Melrose Park plant of the International Harvester Co. in Chicago for several years and retired when he was taken ill.
       Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Martha Huffman and Mrs. Mary K. Lynch, both of Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Madelyn Grobes of Lakeworth, Fla., and two grandchildren.
       Services and burial for Mr. Pancake will be in Frankfort, O.

CLAUDE E. EDMISTON

     Claude E. Edmiston, 78, of 3650 E. National rd. died about 7 p.m. Monday at his residence after a sudden illness.
     He was born in Lawrence County, Aug. 27, 1879, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Edmiston.
     Mr. Edmiston was a retired farmer.
     Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Titus of South Charleston; five sons, Elzie of Sheridan, Wyo., Wayne, Russell and Carl of Springfield, and Raymond L. Edmiston of South Charleston; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two brothers, Clinton of Kansas City, Mo., and Oren of East St. Louis, Ill.
     Mr. Edmiston's body was taken to the Sprague funeral home in South Charleston where friends may call until time of services at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. Walter Reitz officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

MRS. NAOMI TUTTLE PANCAKE

     Mrs. Naomi Tuttle Pancake, 76, of 1460 E. Possum rd. died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday in Mercy Medical Center following three weeks serious illness.
     She was born May 16, 1894 in Springfield, the daughter of Caleb J. and Catherine Stewart Tuttle. She had attended Wittenberg University and Western College for Women, Oxford, and was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
     Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Martha) Huffman and Mrs. Robert (Mary K.) Lynch, both of Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Ruth T. Calvert of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Richard S. Huffman of New York City and Barbara Ann Lynch of Springfield and two nieces. Her body was taken to the Littleton Funeral Home.

NOEL W. PANCAKE

     Noel W. Pancake, 81, of 1738 Pembrook dr., died at 1:30 a.m. Monday in Mercy Medical Center following several months of failing health.
     He was born Sept. 7, 1896, in Omega, O., the son of Henry and Effie Blain Pancake and had resided in Springfield for the past 50 years. He retired in 1956 from the International Harvester Co. after 35 years of service. He had been a plant planning engineer there.
     Mr. Pancake was an avid golfer, was the City Amateur Champ in 1923 and 1924 and was instrumental in the beginning of the industrial golf league. He was a veteran of World War I having served with the U.S. Navy.
     Survivors include his wife, Gladys M. Couser Pancake; a son, James R. of Costa Mesa, Calif.; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
     His body was taken to the Littleton Funeral Home.

GLADYS M. PANCAKE, 76, of 1738 Pembrook Rd., died at 7:30 a.m. Thurs., Aug. 26, in Mercy Medical Center. She was born Sept. 24, 1905, in Spfld., a daughter of James and Myrtle (Hosier) Couser. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, The Women's Town Club, Volunteer's of Mercy, and the Spfld. Club. She is survived by one son, James R., Costa Mesa, Ca.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Pancake, Douglas Pancake, Robert Pancake; one niece, Mrs. John (Susan) Dibert, Spfld. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noel W. in 1978. Her body was taken to the Littleton Funeral Home where friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sun. Services will be held Mon. at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Dr. K. M. Glaesner of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Spfld. Paramedics Fund or St. John's Lutheran Church.
