The death on Thrusday, May 9, at his home in Forest City town marked the passing of one of the early residents of Meeker county and of one of the most highly respected citizens of his home community. Tho he was quite feeble, death was sudden and was due to a heart attack.
Mr. Pancake was born in Lawrence county, Ohio, September 6, 1851, and accompanied his parents to Meeker county in 1866. On July 22, 1877, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Maudella Brower, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Brower of Kingston town. Mr. and Mrs. Pancake moved to Kansas the year of their marriage, but returned to Minnesota in 1880 and acquired the farm in Forest City town on which they resided until their deaths. Mrs. Pancake died November 20, 1932.
Ten children were born to this union of whom eight survive: Emma, Mrs. John Hake, Spokane, Wash.; George W. Pancake, Malta, Mont.; Marietta, Mrs. L. T. Inselman, Litchfield; Iva Lou, Mrs. Louis Inselman, Kerkhoven; James, Minneapolis, and Ernest, Lindsay and Alonzo, Forest City. He is also survived by a brother, Leonard Pancake, Hammond, Ind.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Adventist church. Rev. C. Edwardson of Hutchinson preached the funeral sermon and conducted the services. He was assisted by Rev. H. J. Lockheart, also of Hutchinson.
Burial was made in the Forest City cemetery.
Among the relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were Leonard Pancake, Charles Dillingham, Emmetsburg, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Anderson and Mrs. Oscar Olson of Minneapolis and Mrs. Arthur Armstrong and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ziemskukie of Morris.
