"A Mr. Pancake, who used to live at the mouth of Brush creek, and whose late place of abode was near the mouth of Shawnee, died the first of the week and it is said without medical aid. On account of his poverty none of the physicians applied to would go to see him. If this is true it is not as it should be."
"Mrs. Pancake, is dead. At the time of her death her name was Warde. For a number of years she lived on the island in Spring river, just north of the Bly's ford bridge. Mrs. Pancake was the grand daughter of the famous Indian Chief, Black Hawk, whom the early settlers of Illinois, will remember until they commence the pilgramage into the great beyond as Mrs. Pancake has done. The deceased is said to have been the last of the Black Hawk, tribe, one of the most furious tribes of red warriors that Uncle Samuel ever had to deal with."
