John Riley Smith, a resident all his life in the town of Forest Prairie, died July 4 at the age of 58 years. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, with brief services at the home, followed by services in the Forest City Presbyterian church. Interment was in the cemetery at Forest City.
     Mrs. Smith and two daughters survive, also two brothers and a sister. The brothers are George and Samuel Smith and the sister is Mrs. Hanson, resident in Minneapolis.
     Mr. Smith was born in Forest Prairie July 31, 1871, and on February 12, 1896, was united in marriage to Miss Anna Britney. Seven children were born to this union, of whom only two survive.
     The funeral services were largely attended. About 300 people were in the church, many having been compelled to stand.
