OBITUARIES

The Courier-Journal, Louisville, Kentucky, October 6, 1993, page 5B

VELPEN -- Alva E. Pancake, 86, died Monday at his home. He was a retired furniture-factory worker. Survivors: his wife, the former Ada Underhill; a daughter, Mildred Neukam of Dubois; five sons, Lloyd Pancake of Ferdinand, Kenny Pancake of Winslow, Roger Pancake of Jasper and Louis and Marvin Pancake; a stepdaughter, Joyce Allgood; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday, Nass & Son Funeral Home, Huntingburg. Burial: Fairmount Cemetery, Huntingburg. Visitation: after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

In 1982 Barbara (Mrs. Donald R.) Pancake of Winslow, Indiana sent me a photocopy of this page from the probate file of Payton Pancake. Payton (or Peyton) was born on November 2, 1844 to William Pancake and his first wife, Mary Thompson. Payton died on June 7, 1910 in Pike County. He never married.

allowed $50.00 for his services as receipted, and that he may be

discharged from further duty or liability in said matter.
