George F. Pancake, 58, of Columbus, one time manager of the Conwell Candy company in this city died Wednesday in the Dayton Veteran's hospital.
Mr. Pancake was a member of a prominent Columbus theatrical and entertainment family. At one time he was widely known as a candy and ice cream maker.
With his brother William, with whom he lived, he pioneered in the early movie theater business and formerly operated the Knickerbocker Theater in Columbus.
He was born in Circleville, Ohio, the son of Joseph Pancake and the former Pearl Mae Sabine, of Stoutsville. He and other members of his family went to Columbus in 1914.
For the past several years, with his brother William, he operated the Roxy night club beside the site of the old Knickerbocker Theater.
In the early movie making days he and William, along with a brother Frank, who was projectionist opened the Knickerbocker.
He is also survived by two other brothers, John and Robert all of Columbus, and two sisters, Miss Lula and Miss Mary Pancake.
Members of the family said he had been in ill health for the past few years.
He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Franklin Post, American Legion; Loyal Order of Moose No. 11, and Eagles Lodge 297.
Friends may call at the O. R. Woodyard funeral home, 225 E. State St., Columbus, where services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery.
