Nov 10.

Next day I located and moved into the Hotel Dos Hormanos (Two Brothers) for 700 Pesos per week.

It was like escaping from a nut ward in some illdefined foreign land, whew. This new hotel was recomended to me by a couple in the Bike club and I was warned to get there early in the morning to get a room as someone checked out. Since I arrived a month before 'High Season' I was almost the only guest. There were still light showers and it took two trips to move all the baggage. A young Israeli army vet helped me move and I bought him a  beer. Can't be a prude. I'm in a clean light airy quiet room with a bathrom almost as big as the main room. I got the bike  and it's trailer assembled. I also got the computer opened up to dry out. When I was getting off the plane in Cancun I discovered that my laptop bag was riding in a puddle of shampoo that leaked out of a previous travelers bag in the overhead compaerment. After the partial submersion at the Hostel some things inside my laptop were a little sticky on the submerged side (back side, with the ports etc). I didn't ride the bike that day so I could walk around and get a feel for the traffic protocols etc.

In the early 80's I shortened up a VW thing into a 2 door but it didn't turn out nearly as great looking as this one did.

My late Uncle Ken (my Dad's brother) was a cattle rancher in South Dakota and used a war surplus Dodge Power Wagon weapons carrier to haul feed out to the stock in the winter. It was known on the Ranch as the 'Whoopie' because of it's unperdictable, sometimes exciting behaviour. Here is one in PDC that has seen easier duty and had an 'off the frame' restoration.
WWII Dodge Power Wagon weapons carrier, fully restored.

Sometimes it is difficult finding the right size fender for a trailer wheel. Here is a solution where they used the inside of a larger tire as a mold to make a fiberglass fender. Clever.

Late that afternoon my quest for enlightenment continued as I 'followed direction' looking for that damned English AA group, to no avail. But I did become familiar with this area of town. There is a huge high buck development South of PDC called Playacar. There is a guarded gate but no one could help, and it was raining agian. Getting closer.
