Week 09c
It's Friday and I started out to dive again today but I
got an email invitation to tour the back side of the island with my
computer club pal and his family. Here is a scene from the east side
viewed from a cliff top open air restaurant named 'Coconuts'.

You'll notice that they've lost a little real estate. The smoke on the
horizon might be trash burning at the dump. Julietta will enjoy
seeing the kites over the distant beach. The wind here is right off the
sea. The kiters aren't the only ones to enjoy the breeze. Next is a
picture of a 'Magnificent Frigate' soaring overhear. (How did they ever
come to name it that?)

On the way out of town we saw this troop of Mayan dancers returning
from a performance.

As I was
leaving to dive this morning I saw this ant walking along and
couldn't figure out what it was carrying. Still no idea what use it had
but looks like me carrying a telephone pole.
A couple pages back I was teasing Rosalba about
the electrical
transformers leaking PCB's and attributed the oil stain in the street
to a leaking car. This next scene isn't so innocent.

With all the cats on this island it's not too surprising that I have
yet
to see a rat. . . . . .until earlier this week. "the only good rat is a
. . . . . "

While getting my Scuba regulator serviced I was attracted to some of
Javier's tools. Isn't this 17mm hand wrench lovely.

There is tree that grows in the Florida Keys called Legnumvide (sp).
It's waterproof resin made it a one-time sought after material to use
as ship's propeller shaft bushings. Great income source for the
'Conchs' during WWII. Because of it's weather resistance and also
because it carves well it was popular for making Carousel horses.
A friend of mine in the Keys always wanted a merry-go-round horse as a
home decoration but they are very sought after and expensive as hell.
On my way home the other evening I spotted this black beauty at a
neighbors gate. (Suffer Joanie)

While we are thinking of carnival rides I noticed a Carnival has come
over on the ferry but not set up yet. Here is the Tilt-A-Whirl.

Since finding out about three wheeled motorcycles through my diesel
pump repair pal I've thought about different configurations and like
the idea of making a passenger compartment out of a Tilt-A-Whuirl car.
Kind of like this:

I got in the water again yesterday and I was going to close with a
few more U/W pix from the video but there appear to be enough pictures
for a
page of their own.
