Week-06a

First morning on Cozumel and what a view from my roof:
Note the tent and telescope on a nearby roof. You can just make out Playa Del Carmen on the horizon, about 9 miles away. After Wilma there was not one leaf on a tree, and now, just look!

If you remember my dissertation on 'Panorama' you'll note that there is no distortion in this picture. . . . .  because I zoomed out about half way when I took all the contributing pictures. It makes for many more frames to paste together but things sure turn out square.

As long as we're on the roof lets look North at the school yard. Part of the  wall got blown down and now we can see this lovely big old tree. Long before I'm ready to get up in the morning the school PA system starts announcing the days events followed with one of kids leading calisthenics.
Uno, dos, tres, cuatro. . . . . .

With all this fooling around on the roof, it's gotten to be almost lunch time so I took off for the Mission restaurant and found out I was a little early so I wandered on down 30th to see if my SCUBA tank had grown legs again this year. I no more than walked into the shop and described my tank when the guy smiles and walks me over to a locked side room and pulls it out. I had to take a picture of him and his boss. It had quite a bit of air in it but they asked if they could top it off for me by tomorrow or would I care wait for them to do it now
. What a great place to do business!

While these guys are working away on my tank, lemme show you my
work station now  or is it called a cubicle ?
===========
cubicle |ˈkyoōbikəl| noun a small partitioned-off area of a room, for example one containing a bed in a dwelling or one containing a desk in an office : each cubicle is equipped with a PC and printer. ORIGIN late Middle English (in the sense [bedroom] ): from Latin cubiculum, from cubare ‘lie down.’

In an attempt to keep Cozumel looking tidy they are enforcing the parking rules now and if you are in violation they just take the license plates off your car or scooter and let nature take it's course. Some cars end up impounded and on December 10th at 2:30 pm there will be an auction at the Palace Municipal. Here is a look at some of the cars out back. At this point there is no telling which ones will be up for bid.

This is the third floor foyer at Blanquita's; my door is on the right. We are looking in through the frame of a big sliding glass door that was removed and boarded up for Wilma.

Here is the same opening from a different view. My neighbor Margarita likes to make things presentable so she adds decorating touches here and there that makes quite a difference.

If that were a panorama we could scroll to the right to see this horse that was turned loose in the
full city block vacant lot across from here. As it grazes it stirs up insect with it's feet that make the Egret happy. But who is who's pet. The Egret sometimes does a little dance where it's head remains stationary above it's body but it's long neck sways from side to side.

A Computer Club pal of mine and his family are coming to CZ for the week between Christmas and New Years. They wanted a second opinion on the condition of their hotel so I started out pedaling up North to check it out. I got about half way and had made so many interesting stops along the way I decided to turn back before I ran out of gas (my new head cold is in full bloom already).
Here is a pretty good map of CZ. Unfortunately it doesn't show the hotel strip, Golf Course and Country Club to the North. Oh Well! Feel free to bookmark it for future location references

The Military has an Air Base on the other side of the airport and there were many unhappy looking guys rebuilding rock walls etc. There is a public beach across from the base housing and there was lots of grunt work going on there too. In Mexico, Sunday is 'Family Day' and these beaches are very popular. It's awful for the young guys away from their families because they traditionally just drink and pine away for the day.

My turning around point was the marina where lots of sport fishing and dive boats tie up. I found this little guy trying to scratch out a living. He was not shy about snapping at me with that bigger claw. Snap, snap, snap!

Too bad he didn't have a financial planner at hand for advice. While exploring near by I came across this 1986  500 Peso coin sitting out in plain sight in a public area along with a brass 50 centavo coin
(~5¢). Not another human being within sight or sound.

It had a rough finish to it as if it had been tumbled in the sandy surf for a while during Wilma. Some of the fancy jewelry shops on the ocean front had lost goods into the sea when it broke in through their big windows, despite the plywood. I don't think that coin would impact my life like it could one of these boatmen so I just left it where I found it. If I feel up to it after dinner tonight, I may pedal back out there and agonize over the ethics again. =)
On my way back home for a light lunch and a lay-down, I couldn't resist stopping to look at this home made VW Rabbit Convertible.
