Week-02a
At the end of that last page there was a shot of
my current digs from a roof-top across the street. It looks pretty
confined so maybe this shot of the proposed patio area will give a
better impression.

When I first came to PDC I wanted to take a refresher course in diving.
I'd been away from the sport for many years and I was sure equipment
and methods had evolved. My pal Richard and I shopped around the entire
town looking for a deal on my refresher course and his getting
certified. We met a Swiss named Julanda who had a dive business called Yucatek, and
struck a deal. Her 'dive locker' and school was on 15th between 2nd and
4th, but her store was on 5th, the shopping avenue. She's moved the
shop around the corner this year and the new tenant is remodeling her
old shop. You can still see the ceiling painted like the surface of the
water on a dive. They had the lower unit of an outboard motor bolted to
the ceiling to look like it was hanging down from the boat. Cool.

During hurricane Wilma there was huge surf washing tons of sand inland
and in the process filled the swimming pool behind Sr. Nelsons beach.
Here is a picture of the last day of shoveling it out.

And who should I run into, on down the beach but Senior Nelson himself.
He is serving at the Blu Parrot Hotel beach club now. He sent his
family back home inland for the storm and is working like hell to send
some dough back. He calls me Senior Cap. Look closely and you will see
yet another cruise ship in the background to the left.
Things are 'Hep'nin' in PDC !

I used to do business with a diesel pump and injector repair business
in Minneapolis, years ago. The owner finally moved the operation to a
small farming community about a half hour South of the Cities. Slower
pace, lower overhear, etc., etc. He got interested in 3 wheeled
motorcycles and built one from scratch using a VW rabbit diesel drive
train. He and his wife go on tours with a club called 'Brothers of the Third
Wheel' (click on 'photos' if you've got some time). He's been at it
long enough now to be elected State Director. I thought of him when I
happened upon this outfit a couple nights ago.

Here is some more local handi-work. There has been some talk of getting
a grill for the patio and I'd sure like to know where this one came
from. It couldn't cost much.

This is a VW 'Thing' (Type 181 car) that's been shortened enough that
you sit in the back seat position to drive it.
