I've become pals with a guy
who I met years ago through my interest in diesel cars. He owns and operates
a diesel pump/injector service and repair company South of the Minneapolis
metro area. As a hobby he built a mid-engine three wheeled motorcycle,
elegantly powered with a VW diesel. (my kind of guy). He and his wife tour
with a club of other three wheeled motorcyclists. All of that is to explain
my interest in the next picture. (this is a VW gas engine)
As I work on this web page,
you're probably wondering what my work station looks like. Well, my lap-top
has become a table-top computer.
Apple has a music editing
and management program named iTunes. Last summer I became a fan of a guitar
called a Dobro which is popular, if not a mainstay in contemporary Bluegrass
music.
I bought a hand made 'signature'
Dobro from a Lutier in Florida and had it's short Maple bridge replaced
with a tall Ebony capped Maple bridge by a custom Dobro Lutier in Minneapolis
named Larry Seldon. The instrument's voice is as sweet and bell like as
any you'll find or have made for $5000, it just doesn't have a body made
from exotic woods. I prefer hearing the Dobro played well to learning to
play mine, apparently, and put together a collection of 'Dixie Chicks',
'Alison Krause + Union Station', 'Jerry Douglas', Leo Kotke and of all
things, some Circa de Sole sound tracks on my iBook. iTunes has a feature
called 'Party Mix' where it randomly picks and plays tunes from all the
different albums. That's what I listen to as I slave away here. =)
Later
I was looking for a picture
of that diesel trike I mentioned and can't find one but I came across these
copies of a couple film pictures of me cutting that VW 'Thing' in half
to shorten it.
Isn't it nuts the stuff that
keeps being bought forward as we move from computer to computer?
