Week four, b
Mexico is a little like Minnesota in that all shoreline is public or 'common' land. In Mexico this public land extends 10 meters from high water (~33'). Developers and entrepreneurs can get federal leases to build up to this public land property line and practice their trade  on the public  property but must not block the public access. The big fancy hotels don't give you a second look as you stroll through their lobby to get to the beach. Maybe you'll buy lunch on the beach or have a drink. The waiters and servers are a playful bunch when they get to know you a little.
One afternoon a server gave one of the gals on the beach a baby crab to play with.

There is a local restaurant I frequent who's name translates to 'House of Rock'. They have green chairs and 'Green Chairs' has become a nickname for them. I brought too many potatoes to the Thanksgiving AA potluck last week and gave the leftovers to Green Chairs. A few days later I had my finest meal there yet. Smoked pork chops and potato soup. Mmmmmm.

The red drink is called Jamica (ha-mica) and is an iced tea made from Hibiscus blossom petals (not the house plant type though). The yellow salsa is made of garlic and red Chile peppers. I can't figure out why I'm not loosing any weight with all the walking I'm doing.  =)

There was a storm last week that really kicked up some big waves. There was a local boat that just HAD to go somewhere and ended up upsidedown on the beach. They took the new 100 HP 4 cycle Yamaha OB off the boat and tried to start it with the starter but it wouldn't go, so. . . . . . . they hooked up TWO batteries in series and tried it with 24 volts. It turned over once and locked up. They ended up bringing it to a pal of mine's shop, where he tore it down part way to discover this:

One of the cylinders was full of water (which does not compress) so it's rod bent and punched a hole or two in the case when it turned over once. Total loss.

There is a local hotel called Mom's. http://www.momshotel.com/aboutus.htm and it's not unusual to find strange vehicles parked outside. This Mercedes army surplus truck has Texas tags and is in 'like new' condition. The hotel owner has access to foreign Army Surplus through a pal in Texas. Drop him a line at the address on the hotel website for more info.
