As some of you may know, I did VW repair as a business for years. Looking through my picture files for week 3 I'm not finding much in the line of story reminders so maybe I'll show you some of the interesting cars and wheeled things I've found here so far.
Across from my favorite restaurant
is the local water works offices and service yard. Here is part of their
small fleet of service vehicles.
The file name for this next
one is 'Black and white bug'. Sorry but it's not a VW. Maybe 'Val' form
Mn State can identify it for us.
A month or two before I left
for Mexico a friend turned me on to a book entitled 'Mosquito'. Very interesting
read. To spread a disease the mosquito must digest and assimilate the pathogen.
A couple weeks later it is injected in the next victim with the saliva
of the mosquito. The saliva is used as an anticoagulant. Here in Playa
there have been some cases of Dengue Fever diagnosed and the war on mosquitoes
is being fought with a vengeance. I've only been bitten by a mosquito once
and I killed it without squashing it completely. Maybe 'Val' can identify
it also.
Here at the Hotel Elephante
they treat every room for bugs and it is very effective. This is a very
well run hotel. NO problem identifying these next guys. I found them in
the courtyard after they sprayed last week. Surprising there weren't more
of them. I guess regular treatmentg keeps the numbers down.
Ok, here is a better bug. The
paint is immaculate
This van body is fiberglass
Here is a guy who wanted a
Rabbit pickup so bad he made one out of a sedan. The origional VW Rabbit
PU was made in the USA and never exported.
This is a VW Derby van, as
it came from the factory. They sell for about $10 grand.
This is a home made motorcycle
trailer using the front of a tricyclo. These two guys deliver beer to the
bars for 'so much' a case.
this car is a daily driver
and kind of banged up but the flames are great.
This is a one Peso coin (~9
cents US)
