Well, Hotel 2 Hermanos was
not ready on Wed.
(Connecting hotel to new sewer line in
street)
so I took a room at the Hotel
Elephante on the corner of 10th and 10th.
I paid for 30 days in advance
to get a low rate (3000 Pesos/$267.85 usd).
The hotel is kept meticulously
clean and is secure. There was a picture of the courtyard posted at the
end of last weeks field
note.
During my daily walking tours
of Playa I sometimes find cars with problems that we only hear about at
home. Here is a Chevy pickup that used to make a squeaking noise when you
turned the steering wheel, Then. . . . . . . all of a sudden the squeak
stopped. =)
For those of you not in the
trade, that's called a popped ball joint.
I've only seen one other example
on the street and that was this Saab in 'Uptown' Minneapolis (Nov 1999):
It seems like there is an ice
cream shop on every other block here. I only stop in for one thing. It
is a popsicle made out of fresh coconut and coconut milk that are run through
a blender and frozen. Then it is dipped in hot chocolate, sprinkled with
shredded coconut and re-frozen, rock hard. That's a lot of popsicle for
89.2 cents US.
There aren't many open vacant
lots, but lots of lots behind high walls. =)
I stepped through a gate to
look at one lot and discovered it was the walled yard of a campground and
hotel. In the yard I found this banana tree.
In the walled lot next to that
hotel was a wireless pager antenna made to look like a palm tree. The fronds
are metal, painted green.
I like spiral staircases and
found this one on a new 6 unit rental property.
Next door is my favorite house
down here. It is this tidy little original homestead. They probably sold
their side yards to some rich gringos and secured their retirement.
