Upcoming Family Gatherings:

February 5
March 4
April 8th

all at 3:00 pm

Our next Family Gathering was held at the Danish American Center Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 2-5 PM.

At the first meeting of the year we will be discussing elves and hidden people along with Icelandic monsters

We will have a lot of fun with the subject; tell stories, do crafts, sing and dance and maybe put on a play!

We will provide coffee and drinks but would greatly appreciate if people would bring some goodies to share.

Admission fee is $5 for members in the Icelandic Association and $10 for non-members.

Membership in the Association is $15 a year.

RSVP: Email IcelandMN@gmail.com with the number of kids coming so we can plan materials accordingly.

November 13th Icelandic Family Day

The most recent Family gathering was held at the Danish American Center on Sunday, November 13th from 2-5PM. The theme was Christmas, the Christmas boys (jólasveinar), their "lovely" parents (Grýla and Leppalúði), and their pet cat (the Christmas cat). We learned and practiced the Christmas songs that will be sung around the tree at Jólabarnaball. There were crafts, stories, singing, games and a lot of fun in Icelandic! Coffee and drinks were be provided, so people brought goodies to share.

Icelandic Family Gathering

Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2:00pm to 4:00 pm

St John the Evangelist Episcopal Church gymnasium, 60 Kent Street, St. Paul, MN 55102

  •    focus on the fall, farm animals, bringing the sheep home from the mountain, folk tales, singing, crafts, reading, putting on a play, and having fun in Icelandic!

The Icelandic Family Gathering was a great success.  Thanks to Katrin and Sigga, the gathering of the sheep was well planned.  Children made their sheep which were placed around the room.  Each child found a sheep and had to bring it the gathering spot, a corral of sorts, like in Iceland.  The story of the sheep returning to their farms was shared.  There was singing, dancing, sharing of books, folk tales, games, a play on the stage.   Of course, an Icelandic gathering would not be complete with out coffee and food that was shared.  Everyone had a wonderful time, even the adults!

Thank you so much to the planners and those executing the day which includes: Katrin Sigurdardottir, Sigga Gudmundsdottir, Binna Veigarsdottir, and Pall Skaftason.
