Technical Requests/Information Sheet for Sponsors of "Samantha `Rastles' the Woman Question" Staging Because Samantha "neighbors" with the audience from an intimate domestic setting, staging that enhances that intimacy works best. Of course, as always, probably the most important factor is matching the size of the theater/room with the size of the expected audience. These stagings work well: --amphitheater setting, with performer on flat and seats rising in rows away from the stage --thrust stages --in hotels/other institutional meeting rooms: standard risers 18-24" high forming a platform approx. 12' deep x 16' wide. If the room has mirrors on the wall, either have the stage set up against a non-mirrored wall or ask that the mirrors be covered. --if it is a school or business auditorium or a large proscenium stage, it is helpful to diminish the large area through use of curtains or screens so that the single character isn't swallowed up by the space. ****I will need to have access to the staging area/dressing room, with all props available, 2 hours before doors open or before any other activity in that room that precedes the show (i.e. banquets, etc). Lighting Simple lighting requirements. Where stage lights are available, amber or rose gels preferred. On regular stages, a short technical rehearsal with your lighting person is sufficient to set the lights. There are no light cues during the performance. Props The sponsor is asked to provide the following props: **rocking chair (adult sized--not small sewing rocker) **small, old-looking table **wooden coat rack **braided, oriental, or rag rug (large enough for above to rest on) **oil or kerosene lamp to put on table (doesn't need to work; I won't light the wick). Amplification On regular theater stages whose acoustics are designed for dramatic productions, no microphone is generally needed. In large auditoriums, hotel banquet rooms, etc., amplification is usually required. If amplification is required, I need to use a wireless lavalier body microphone. Dressing Room When possible, a stage dressing room with toilet facilities, mirrors, and lights is requested. In other settings without stage dressing rooms, please provide a private dressing area with an adequate mirror for applying makeup. (At events held in hotels, the management often provides a complimentary room that could serve this purpose. Or, if I'm staying at that hotel, I can just dress in my room.) Duplication of materials A packet of materials--program, poster, bibliography, picture--will be sent for your use. I have used black on ivory to make it easier for you to photocopy onto any color you wish. Please duplicate the attached program to be distributed when the audience arrives. Should you have use for a poster, there is room at the bottom for your date/time/place/sponsor information. The bibliography may also be duplicated for audience if you wish.
