Overview
Dancing is certainly a mainstay of entertainment in many social circles throughout our
society today. Not only can it provide fun, exercise, and social interaction, but
it is also an
outlet for the energies of children and adolescents. Weve marveled at the
prior "GAP" commercial on TV showing the thrill of swing dancing and wishing we could do the
same.
East Coast Swing and Salsa dancing have been "hot"
at various times in nightclub social
circles all over the world. Many nightclubs have now renovated to accommodate the dance
enthusiasts as a newfound eclectic clientele with new dance floors, state-of-art
entertainment systems, and décor.
Many people would love to dance, but the challenge of learning steps and developing
confidence on the dance floor is difficult to integrate into their daily busy schedules. But for those
who make the commitment, it can offer a refreshment of their lifestyle, an
exciting alternative in their social lives, and opportunities for meeting new people and
new friendship.
Purposes of the Dance Club
- For persons to have fun in an environment of exercise and social interaction.
- Social exercise that can energize not only personal lives but performance at work.
- Intra-company new friendship and personnel contacts.
- "Singles" to meet other "singles".
- Learning and developing dancing skills.
Dance logistics and scheduling
Facilities must be identified that offer availability for lessons integrated with regular dances. Regular dances will likely require more square
footage than if it was a lessons only event. External facility rental fees will likely require supplemental
charges to support optional food and/or live bands. Additionally,
active dance clubs and ballroom facilities throughout the Twin Cities might be available
as club dancing locations. Frequency of dances can be once per week, every other week, or
once per month. Each dance could emphasize an individual type of dance (e.g.
East Coast
Swing or Salsa) or group of dance types (Ballroom or Latin).
Lessons
Lessons are generally available from outside, experienced instructors/groups at different levels for a
variety of different dances. Group lessons can be offered prior to each
dance function. Lessons could be either by category (e.g. Latin) or given for an individual dance
(e.g. East Coast Swing). Basic,
intermediate, and advanced levels could be taught when there's suitable interest
level and students have applicable dance background and/or experience.
