1996
(Unofficial)

Twenty-year-old Jenni Speltz organized an unofficial procession (without the Blessed Sacrament) with seven young people walking 12 miles from the Basilica of St. Mary to the Cathedral of St. Paul. She was inspired by stories of pilgrimages from Europe, Pope John Paul II's example of returning the Corpus Christi procession to the streets of Rome, and a desire to do something to prepare for the Jubilee Year 2000.

1997

The same young woman organized the first official Eucharistic procession in 1997, the Saturday after Corpus Christi Sunday (June 7), under the spiritual leadership of Father James Livingston, beginning at the Church of the Nativity in St. Paul and ending at the Cathedral of St. Paul with over 600 participants.

1998

The 1998 Eucharistic Procession began at the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas on the University of St. Thomas campus (St. Paul) and ended at the Cathedral of St. Paul with over 700 participants. It was held on Pentecost Sunday—the first year the procession was held on a Sunday.

1999

This was the first year the procession was held in Minneapolis, the first year it was done following the Mass of Corpus Christi, and the first year participants marched in the street itself (previously participants marched on the sidewalks and the grassy median of Summit Avenue). All subsequent processions have been held on Corpus Christi Sunday. The procession began at the Church of St. Olaf and ended at the Basilica of St. Mary, with 400 participants.

2000
(Jubilee Year)

The Jubilee Year of 2000 brought many blessings to the procession. Before the Mass and Procession of Corpus Christi, Father Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R, gave a day of recollection to adults and John Crudele hosted a youth rally at the University of St. Thomas for high school youth. The procession itself began at the Church of St. Luke in St. Paul and ended at the Cathedral of St. Paul, with close to 1000 participants for the day.

2001

The Fifth Annual Corpus Christi Procession was back in Minneapolis, starting again at the Church of St. Olaf and ending at the Basilica of St. Mary with around 200 participants.

2002
