---------------------------------------------- Install KX drivers for Windows 98SE Version 3537 --------------------------------------------------------- Some people have had trouble with lockups after installing the full version of KX 3537 with Windows 98SE. Etienne, a KX user, figured out that you if you installed an older full version of KX first, (3534f in this case), then installed the Update ver 3537 instead of the Full 3537, the installation went fine. NOTE: BY DEFAULT THE KX DRIVERS USE THE REAR SPEAKER THAT MEANS YOU MUST HOOK YOUR MIXER UP TO THE BLACK JACK OF THE PLAYBACK CARD. If you are running XP, 2000, or ME you can just skip the installation of 3534f and go straight to 3537 Full version. The full installation also works on many computers with Windows 98SE, but if it does freeze on reboot, you will have to reboot and enter SAFE MODE and uninstall the drivers and then continue with the installation described below. It should also be noted that very few of the ideas below came out of my head. I stole the ideas from other KX users. --------------------------------------------------------- Start the computer after installing the second card When Windows starts to find a PCI Device, cancel out of it. DirectX 8.0 at least must be installed on your computer. If you are using N-Track you probably installed 8 or 9 long ago. Install an older full version of KX drivers, I installed 3534f. The link to download 3534f was good as of 4-15-04 http://www.electricstart.de/kxdrdir.htm When KX SETUP looks for Joystick drivers, direct it to: C:\Windows\System When KX SETUP looks for drivers for the card, direct it to: C:\Program Files\kX Project\3534 After the installation, you will need to reboot. Reboot again: You might get a message saying Something like "Drivers Not Found" or "Names have Been dynamically changed" So Reboot: You might even need to do it one more time. Before installing the 3537 Update version, check to see that the system recognizes both cards and the SPDIF connection. Start->Setting->Control Panel->Multimedia Devices->Audio tab you should see 9 options in ------------------------------- Playback/Preferred device: ------------------------------- (use any available device) KX Wave 0/1 KX Wave 4/5 KX Wave 6/7 KX Wave 8/9 KX Wave CT4831 10k1 [7c40] 0/1 KX Wave CT4831 10k1 [7c40] 4/5 KX Wave CT4831 10k1 [7c40] 6/7 KX Wave CT4831 10k1 [7c40] 8/9 ** I have KX Wave 0/1 selected for Playback (** Note-I am beginning to think that this setting has no effect on the recording software in Windows 98SE. I have noticed that if I select; KX Wave CT4831 10k1 [7c40] 0/1 Everything still works fine, but don't quote me on this.) In Playback Preferred device select the Advanced Properties button->Performance Tab -Set "Hardware Acceleration" to FULL Set "Sample rate conversion quality" to BEST ------------------------------- Recording/Preferred device ------------------------------- (use any available device) KX Wave 0/1 KX Wave CT4831 10k1 [7c40] 0/1 I have (use any available device) selected In Recording Preferred device select the Advanced Properties button-> -Set "Hardware Acceleration" to FULL Set "Sample rate conversion quality" to BEST ---------------------------------------------------------------- Now check your SPDIF connection Double click the KX Manager in the bottom right Right Click on KX Mixer Settings->I/O Status The HOST Card (CT4830) shows the following: SPDIF Inputs spdif A: 2109204 Freq: 47991; R; S; spdif B: unused spdif C: unused or same as B [R-Rate Locked; S-Stream Locked; V-Valid Audio] I2S Inputs 0: 0 1: 0 2: 0 Close that window and you can select the mixer for the other card by clicking on the small rectangle at the bottom right of the mixer. It should be showing the name of the current card's mixer. When I click on mine, I now have 2 options 1. CT4831 10K1 [7c40] 2. CT4832 10K1 [7c60] (Note that even though both cards are model CT4830, KX calls them 4831 and 4832, this is OK.) Go through the same procedure as the first card to bring up I/O status. It should look like this; The SEND Card (CT4830) shows the following: SPDIF Inputs spdif A: unused spdif B: unused spdif C: unused or same as B [R-Rate Locked; S-Stream Locked; V-Valid Audio] I2S Inputs 0: 0 1: 0 2: 0 SPDIF Outputs 0: 2109204 1: 2109204 2: 2109204 (@48000 Hz) NOW Install the 3537 Update driver, not the FULL one. Like the first installation, multiple reboots will be required before both cards and the SPDIF connection are recognized. Checking your connections in 3537 is almost the same as 3534f except that I/O status has been renamed to SPDIF/I2S Status... So Right Click on KX Mixer Settings->SPDIF/I2S Status... Make sure that your HOST card (the one with the CD SPDIF coming into it), is selected in the ASIO control panel. Right Click on KX Mixer Settings->ASIO Control panel Select the HOST card in this window. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Websites: KX Homepage http://come.to/sblive KX Forum http://www.driverheaven.net/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=67 3534f KX download (old full version) http://www.electricstart.de/kxdrdir.htm 3537 KX download (update and full versions) click the link "KX Project the latest WDM Drivers" Follow links to the download page http://come.to/sblive There are some tweaks that you need to do after this but that info is all in the help files, so read em!
