--------------------------------------------------------- Uninstall Creative drivers for Windows 98SE --------------------------------------------------------- The procedure below describes uninstalling the Creative drivers with Windows 98SE. I should note here that I tried using DRIVER CLEANER before trying the method described below but had no luck. After deleting all Creative drivers in the Control panel, uninstalling all the Creative programs, running DRIVER CLEANER and REGCLEAN, on bootup, Windows would find the Creative drivers and reinstall them. It should also be noted that very few of the ideas below came out of my head. I stole the ideas from other KX users. --------------------------------------------------------- The uninstallation/installation described below was for a CT4830 SBLive! Value card. Depending on your card, you may be looking to delete different files than I describe below. The process, however, should be fairly similar Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs Remove the following Programs: Creative Launcher Creative Play Center Creative Recorder Sound Blaster Live! Value Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Device Manager Tab Under Creative Miscellaneous Devices: Remove; Creative Gameport Joystick Creative Multimedia Interface Creative SB16 Emulation Under Sound, video and game controllers: Remove; Creative SB Live! Value You want to get rid of all the SBLive INF files so Use Windows Explorer. Browse to this folder C:\WINDOWS\INF Do a CRTL+F to bring up the search window Type in the info below in the Name and Location Tab: Named: *.inf Containing Text: SBLive! (Note, you may need to search for other words depending on what card you have installed i.e. "Audigy") The following files were found on my computer: CreativeCtom10k1.inf Ctgt10k1.inf Ctmisc.inf Ctom10k1.inf Emu10k1.inf Sb16awe.inf It is a good idea to double click these files and read them with notepad to make sure they are something you want to get rid of. Rather than deleting them, I renamed each one with a *.IMP extension instead of *.inf, just in case. Decided to get rid of the SBLive DOS drivers so: Start->Run->Sysedit Edit the AutoExec.bat file: delete or REMARK out the following lines by typing REM in front of each line REM SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6 REM SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS REM C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM Save the Autoexec.bat file. If you are planning to use a second Creative Labs card, Shutdown now and install the card in your motherboard.
