When buying a new modem if you have the choice of V.90 or V.92, the
V.92 offers a fairly significant benefit. V.92 modems remember previous connections
and use that information to connect faster on subsequent connections. Those few less
seconds connecting are nice if you connect frequently.
V.92 modems offer 2 other features which most ISPs, including
USFamily.Net, do not support. These are:
Call on hold: (there are already 3rd party devices and services to
assist in this area)
Slightly Faster upload: (this benefits few users as download speed is
what users look for).
USFamily.net will not implement these features until all the high
priced internet services have done so. Do not expect that soon as the features are
of very little general value and the communication industry is not offering these as
an upgrade, instead hoping to get all ISPs to buy entirely new equipment. That isn't
likely in the present financial environment, as users are not generally looking for higher
